Cricket Fever!!!

Now, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 has been going on in India (along with our lovely neighbors Sri Lanka and Bangladesh) for quiet some time now... But you haven't seen me mentioning anything about it... Didn't you wonder if I did not share the passion of my fellow countrymen who can be wild when it comes to cricket!

I did share that passion untill a few years back... I came from a family of cricket fanatics... By fanatics, I mean, serious fanatics... If someone is in the loo and the team starts playing well, we made that guy stay there for the entire time... And somehow, it worked! (Don't you wonder how sports and superstitions go along) And if our team did not win, we knew whom to blame! LOL...

It was my turn during the 2003 World Cup... I watched the first match India played (it was against Australia) and we lost. The next match we were loosing again (I do not remember whom was it against) so I just gave up and went out with Mom to do a couple of quick errands... And surprisingly the team started playing better... Dont ask me how me watching Tendulkar on TV makes him nervous... I guess we're soul mates... LOL... Dad called me up on my cell and told us to stay out of the house - till the match was over! I and Mom had a ball of a time (no dinner to worry about! We ate out - at Dad's expense, of course!) And we won the match! This was repeated at every single match till the semifinals! I and Mom spent so much of time together and had fun! When India reached the finals we thought maybe the jinx had been broken... And we watched the finals... Do you know what happened??? Of course, Australia won!!! And I was blamed for it!!! LOL!!!

Ever since, I gradually stopped watching our matches and surprisingly India kept on winning a lot many... Just last weekend, I was watching the India - Australia match (my Dad and my brothers had warned me to stay away from the TV but I thought it has been too many years and Tendulkar might have forgotten me by now) but alas... The spell still remains... We played really badly at that time... After a while we went out for dinner and there was a TV there with the match (Its a common sight in all restaurants when the World Cup is on) and I sat with my back to the TV... You know what happened??

INDIA SURPRISED EVERYONE BY DEFEATING THE 3 TIMES CHAMPIONS!!!

Now you know the credit entirely does not go to Dhoni (the captain) for winning the match... :-P

So tomorrow is the most important match in this world cup! A semi-final that is sure to be more important than the final itself! A semi-final between arch-rivals

India and Pakistan!

I will receive calls from my family not to watch the match, but this time, I'm not doing it for free! I'm goign to charge them... Think how much fabric can $100 buy!!! Whats a match (the repeat telecast of which I can always watch!) in comparison to that...

What do you think I should buy with it???

Maybe some more Echino!

Or some fun prints???

Do suggest me things...

BTW, there's going to be a lot more new stuff in my shop soon... And not just quilting related... Wait for it...
Hint : Its wood... Its bright colored... Its fun... And its damn cheap!!! (nothing more that 20$!!! YAY!!!)

It can come anytime now... I need to get hold of DH's camera again...

Till then, guess who will win the match!!! And keep India in your prayers!!! Go India Go!!!

Cheers!!!

Gardens of India giveaway

I hope you guys loved the sneak peek I gave you... Thats another pattern I'm coming up with for April... I've called it Paalavi... It means tender shoots of leaves... It symbolizes spring and so very suits the fabric that has been sent to me by my generous sponsor...

Sneak peek!

It also happens to be the name of my only niece, who lives in Singapore... The last time I saw her was when she was 2 months old and now she is 5 years old!

With a new pattern there will be another giveaway... But before that here's another one!

Remember this quilt?

No, I'm not giving away the quilt... LOL... I love it too much... I made it thinking I'll be giving it to my Mom, but then decided that it looks great in my Living Room and needs to be there! I know Mom wont mind... LOL...

Here's what my wonderful friends have said about the pattern...

Jodi said "I must say that I loved it so much that I just had to do it up, step by step.  Plus, I'm really a hands' on kinda person, so for me to figure out if the pattern was doable, I needed to do it up!  I used fabric from my stash.  The pattern is called "Gardens of India" written by Shruti Dandekar .  She has an Etsy site where you can purchase the pattern and it's only $5.00!  It was really simple to do and relatively quick.  It took me half an hour to do two blocks.  It's made up of eight blocks total, plus two borders.  The finished size is 48 x 78.  I will definitely make this quilt again."

and Ros said, "Shruti, I would like to say well done on designing such a gorgeous quilt. It is stunning and the instructions are soooooo clear. Ideal for a newbie quilter or a quick project for you clever gals."

I'm giving away 3 more copies of the pattern...

YES you heard me right 3 more copies!!!

But there's a twist... You'll have to buy it first!

Confused???

To enter the giveaway go to my Etsy shop and buy the pattern here...

Come back and tell me you have bought it... I'll draw the 3 winners on the 1st of April...

AND I'LL REFUND YOUR ENTIRE AMOUNT IF YOU ARE ONE!

How does that sound?

What are you waiting for... Its just $5! P.S. go through my old posts and you might find a way to save another 10%... LOL... You'll have to work a little for that though...

Go ahead, enjoy...

Cheers...

A colorful post

A lot has been happening on the quilting front and I will reveal it soon... After the success of the Sewing Spaces Focus I'm working hard to bring to you something equally or maybe even more interesting! Hint : There will be lot more splashes of color!

Meanwhile, yesterday was Rangpanchami! The day kiddo finally got to play color! He enjoyed a lot... Was not ready to get into the house... But scared that he'll catch a cold, I got him in... I played with him too... It was fun!

Holi!

Holi!

Holi!

I remember last year he was scared of people who were drenched in color... But this year he was so excited. He woke up very early... And then put color on everyone in the house! My living room floor has not been the same ever since!

But it was wonderful... It was his first Rangpanchami...

As kids, we used to play colors for a long time... I really missed my brothers yesterday... :) It was a day full of pranks!

And I also remember when I was staying at a girls hostel while studying Architecture, we had played so much that there was no water left to wash ourselves afterwards. We went and saw a movie (I think it was Titanic) to kill time till the tank was filled for us again, as we could not even enter our rooms and sit for the fear of staining everything...

This day sure brings the best memories to me and I'm glad that Aadi will be having wonderful ones of his own too... :)

Cheers!!!

FNSI and Happy Holi!

FNIS was a success this week!!! YAY!!! I finished the quilt I was making for the Modern Relief Japan... But since I'm also writing a pattern for the same, I'll have to wait to show you the quilt... :)

On another front We celebrated Holi yesterday!
Wish all of you a Happy & Colorful Holi!

Holi is celebrated in many different ways in India...

"Holi, or Holli (Hindiहोली), is a spring religious festival celebrated by Hindus. It is primarily observed in IndiaNepalSri Lanka,[1] and countries with large Indic diaspora populations, such as SurinameMalaysiaGuyanaSouth AfricaTrinidadUnited KingdomUnited States,Mauritius, and Fiji. In West Bengal and Orissa of India it is known as Dolyatra (Doul Jatra) (Bengaliদোলযাত্রা), or Basanta-Utsav ("spring festival")(Bengaliবসন্তোৎসব), . The most celebrated Holi is that of the Braj region, in locations connected to the god KrishnaMathura,VrindavanNandagaon, and Barsana. These places have become tourist destinations during the festive season of Holi, which lasts here to up to sixteen days.[2]

The main day, Holi, also known as Dhuli Vandana in Sanskrit, also DhulhetiDhulandi orDhulendi, is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other. Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan (burning of Holika) or Chhoti Holi(little Holi). The bonfires are lit in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad, a staunch devotee of god Vishnu, escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion. Holika Dahan is referred to as Kama Dahanam in South India. " ~ Wikipedia

We in Maharashtra only light bonfires, we donot play colors on Holi, we play it on the fifth day after Holi which is called Rang Panchami...

This is what people look like when they play holi...

No, thats not me... LOL... But even if it was you would not have known...

;)

Have a colorful weekend, you all!

Japan

It was heart wrenching to watch the television set for the past few days... Japan has been through a rough time... I was amazed by the calmness and the discipline that they have shown in moments of the most unforeseen crisis... and I salute all of them for that...

I am glad that I will be doing my bit for them... Stay tuned to hear something about this very soon...

{ modern } relief - japan

I'm so glad that I am a part of the gang!!! And that I can do my bit for a nation that I am in no way linked to, but have been admiring for the courage that they have shown, not only as individuals but as a team right since the Hiroshima-Nagasaki days...

For those out there - We are all with you and you are in our thoughts and our prayers...

Friday Night Sew In - Take 2

Last month, I had signed up for FNSI... But conditions on the home front did not permit me to get any sewing done... I've signed up again this month... And I'm determined to go ahead with it...

Plan # 1 : Dont put down kiddo for a nap in the afternoon. That way even if DH is busy, kiddo will sleep much earlier than his usual time and I can sew! (Grin)

Plan # 2 : Get dinner prepared and housework done by 3 pm! Dont waste time on the computer while DS is at school. Work on the daily chores at that time.

Plan # 3 : Prepare the dining room for sewing  in the evening. Clean the room thoroughly, clean the machine. Put everything in place. Then get all fabric that you need and keep it in sight. Work on the patterns so that you know what you're going to do. Put the spare cutting mat on the dining table and the machine on the computer table. (My sewing room is right next to my bedroom. And I dont want to disturb either of my men during the night.

Plan # 4 : Keep some snacks ready. As well as a thermos full of Hot Chocolate!

Plan # 5 : Keep i-Pod fully charged and portable speakers in place.

Plan # 6 : Make a list according to priority of the things that you want to make that night. I guess I'll be writing another post about quilts that need to be made along with their deadlines.

Want to join the fun???

Anyone in or near Milwaukee? Or Chicago? Or NY?

Hey all, does anyone of you stay anywhere near or in Milwaukee / Chicago / NY?

I need some help there.

A friend of mine is coming down there some time in April. And if there are any lovely Local Quilt Shops around you, I wanted someone to buy stuff for me, which he will collect from you. I'll send you the money via paypal or with him (whatever way you prefer). I would have asked him to visit the quilt shops, but I really am not sure about his ability to choose stuff. LOL. Add to that the fact that he's the best friend of my little brother. ;)
