Turning Triangles... WIP

So HBO decided to spoil my weekend. Oh, did you ask how?

Well, for all those who do not know, I am a huge Harry Potter fan! Of course I love the books more than the movie (isn't it always like that?) But I was really looking forward to watching HP7 part 1 today afternoon.

I managed to finish all the housework (My help took a week off!) and cooking, got my son fed... Everything!
Including DS's surprise demand of gulab jamoons (of course the ready to cook powder ones, but GJ's nevertheless)

And what happened? Apparently someone had jinxed HBO (another reason to believe wizards do exist!) and the picture went twice as fast as the sound (I knew that light travels faster than sound, but didn't think it applied here!). And they decided to chuck it and put on another movie instead...

What a waste, you'd think...

Well, I'm known to make "Best of Waste" am I not?

So here's what I spent my afternoon doing... Ever since I had received the Color Quarterly magazine by Asian Paints, all I could think of was the back of the book. It had this beautiful collage made up mainly of triangles... The colors were so "not me".

And it was screaming "MAKE ME INTO A QUILT". Has that ever happened to you? You see a picture and cannot forget it until you make it into a quilt...

I decided to make it into a mini quilt...

So here's my Turning Triangles Mini...

I'd love to make it into a larger quilt...

Maybe someday I will...

But making this one was fun...

I sketched it on paper and cut my pieces (yup all the triangles too... Didn't follow the shortcut to make them) and put it all together... Didn't take as long as I thought it would... And turned out it was fun after all...

Now any suggestions on quilting it?

Cheers!!!

The "Home Sewing is Easy" fabric by Alexander Henry gives it a retro look!

Mathematics...

You guys already know that I love maths!

I've said so here...

But here's some lovely maths! Any kid will love to have it in their room!

A set of a Plus and Minus Pillows

Here's the Plus Pillow

And here's the Minus (though I kept it with the stripes vertical... I had not named them till after the photos!

Do you like them?

I used fabric from the lovely FE Bundle that I got from Fat Quarter Shop to make these...

There's a lot left after making these... Maybe I'll just make it into something else...

Here We Go!

I have been working on this for a while..
It took me some time to get it right but here it is...

The Here We Go bag from Handmade Beginnings by Anna Maria Horner...

I decided to use every last bit of my favorite Sew Now! Sew Wow!! fabric by Alexander Henry from my stash... Wait... I found a little bit left over... maybe I'll make myself a matching pouch!!!

It is BIG! I'm planning to take this with me for the HV Workshop!!!

I used a linen black polka dot fabric to line it...

Its really sweet...

I'll be making more of these as the pattern is pretty easy to follow once you get the hang of it... If you want me to make one of these for you - contact me!

Note to self : Do stuff according to the book! Do not use your own brain - at least not when you're making something from the pattern for the first time! LOL!

My quilting classes...

Did I tell you guys I started taking quilting classes?
Well, I did... And here's the work of my first student.

She chose some bright colors to work with. She has a 6 MO DS for whom she was making this one.

She wanted to make it slightly bigger than a baby quilt. So it is about 48" x 60"ish. (We never actually measured it!)

The original plan was to make 6 blocks. But her baby took ill on the second day and we had to rush through the process as she was here just for 3 days.

So instead of making not-so-good 6 blocks we decided to make only 4 instead and I helped her with the quilting. She did about 20% and I did 80% of the quilting.

We selected a range of blocks. Since she was already good at applique, we did not use that.

The corners are funny 'coz we had to hurry through the process 'coz her baby was running a temperature and had a stomach upset. The blocks ended up being different sizes and we trimmed them down without giving it much thought.

Here's Ashwini, my friend who comes over to help me with the exhibition stuff holding up the quilt... She was the tallest one among us.

And here's a seak shot of her. She did not know I was taking this picture! LOL

Cheers!

A delayed post!

This post should have come last week!
But I was in bed with Flu (I came to know then that Flu is a short version of Influenza! - knowing that made me feel like I was really very sick!)

My recent finishes...

The first is something I so much enjoyed making!

I made a mini version of the "Orbit" Quilt from "We love Color" by Jennifer Sampou.

Though I managed to "wing" it... I'm so happy! Not because of the actual result, but the process... It was liberating!

Attempting to break your own ways is awesome! It gave me the same feeling as when I was SCUBA diving!

Here's my quilt!
Its 16" x 16" and is a wall quilt!

And here's the detail of the quilting! It is pretty dense!

I'd love to make a larger version of this one!

Last week was a HUGE milestone in my life! My little one wanted to learn to sew... and I taught him!

It helps when you have a machine with speed control and on/off button! It was so easy for him!

He made this pillow! It now occupies a place of honor in my living room!

I'm such a proud mom!

And here's some stuff I made for the craft fair coming up in October!

Some baby bibs... More to come along with matching burp cloths!

Tissue Pouches!

Aprons...

This one is for me... Will make more like this in different fabrics...

 Pattern 2

 Pencil Rolls

Some swoon birdies for the mobiles... There were some more made too... But I dont know where they are! A 5 year old in the house loves them!

There's a lot more work to be done!

But it was a productive week!

Dont you think so?

What did you make?
