I know you guys have been waiting for this one, haven't you??? This week we'll all get together and drool over shelves full of yummy fabrics from all over the world!!! Isn't that cool?
Now you guys have all seen my N.E.A.T. Fabric storage... Do you know how it was before???
See those corrugated boxes??? That was my stash! Which then moved to...
the other side of the room... LOL...
A lot of it was folded and then went off to the drawers... Only for a short while...
Soon the desire to look at those neatly folded fabric took over and I got all my cuddly friends out of the shelves and onto the bed and displayed my prized possessions!!!
I had them sorted by color... But then I realized I cannot work like this! So I rearranged them...
Now they are divided by the way I combine them together in quilts rather than by color... I do have the designer fabric clubbed together with some of my favorite Indian fabric... The other Indian fabric has a compartment of its own...
I went to the doctor on Saturday with Rohit, and I told him that whenever in his lifetime (he's 82 and still absolutely active and perfect diagnosis) he decided to sell a pigeon hole rack that he has, I want to buy it... He gave me a broad smile and asked me if I hadn't read the board? He is shifting his clinic on the 14th of Feb and guess what??? I'm getting that beauty to put up here!!! YAY!!! What a wonderful valentine's gift!!!
It look some what similar to my friend Kelly's unit...
Now tell me, if my wall behind is grey (which it will be very soon) what color do I paint this unit? White or Yellow?
Now for the surprises I was telling you guys about... Well, I have tied up with another wonderful fabric shop!!!
That pigeon hole shelf looks like so much fun! My daughter would have all sorts of things tucked in the lower spaces even before I got the thing put up!
ReplyDeleteIf you are storing fabrics in it, I'd go for white paint. Then you don't have to worry about the light casting a strange yellowish shadow onto your fabrics while you are trying to pick colors.
Have fun with your room renovation!
Cathy
I love that shelf! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a wonderful way to store things! I love cubbyholes! I was thrilled when I was gifted a microscope cabinet with thirty large cubbyholes. That's where I store my fabric. Did I mention I love cubbyholes? I'm sure you'll love it too!
ReplyDeleteThe pigeon hole rack is awesome. Painting it will be another story...all those surfaces...whoa! It'll be worth it though. I would go with white. Then your fabric and things will pop out when stored!
ReplyDeletePerfect timing on the pigeon hold rack, Shruti! And what a great giveaway! I DO need help, too, with my fabric storage!
ReplyDeleteI love that shelf. It could be used in so many ways. How lucky you are to get that. I bet you can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous of that green shelf!!! I think I might have to figure out a way to build one of those :) Great post :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous giveaway! I've just finished organizing my fabric (and overhauling my sewing room) and what a difference being organized makes! I have my fabric sorted by color, light to dark, but also separated "theme" fabrics -- batiks, Christmas, novelty, etc. You can see it on my blog if you have time. http://joanoh2.blogspot.com

Oh my gosh! A Sunkissed Layer Cake? I LOVE that line. A $50 fabric shopping spree? I've already got something picked out. Organizational help with my sewing space? That's the one I NEED. Great giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice to be able to see all your fabric at a glance instead of digging through boxes. I still have a lot in boxes it is very sad. Love the green shelf and loved looking at the Flickr group of the other craft rooms.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I ADORE that cubby unit!!! I laughed at how many times you had to shift around your fabric to suit your liking. Sounds like something I would do. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win!
Love the pigeon holes! You are so lucky! Organization is so wonderful for creativity!
ReplyDeleteI think I would paint it yellow, how much fun you are going to have whey you go to organize your goodies in it!
ReplyDeleteGuess your timing was perfect to get a lovely shelf! I think white would be looking great with a grey background.
ReplyDeleteI don't have that much of a stash or a sewing room. But I hope to gradually build up ;-)
Thanks for the superb chance!
I don't have any sewing storage space "issues" yet - I'm such a newbie that I have next to no stash. I'm sure that will change with time... ;)
ReplyDeleteOh wow that pigeon hole storage rack is fabulous, can't wait to see yours! Love the way you have been shifting your fabric around, it all looks so wonderful.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the beginning of getting it all together. It is so much easier to work when everything is organized. Love the pigeon hole shelf, that would be wonderful. As for the color, which color do you have around the rest of your room?
ReplyDeleteThat green storage unit is AWESOME!!! I love having everything organized!
ReplyDeleteI love to organize my stash... When you pull stuff to make something and then you get to put it all back...
ReplyDeleteGreat shelf!
I love white for the cubby unit--a neutral background so the colors of your fabric really pop. Now I'm going to be on the look out for something like it for my home. It's truly lovely. Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI aspire to someday have a sewing room, or corner. At the moment though I'm happily filling my cupboard with fabric and other notions. Absolutely love the pigeon hole cubby - I'm definitely going with yellow on grey.
ReplyDeletewhat a lucky girl you are with the pigeon hole rack! don't you just love it when such surprises come your way!
ReplyDeleteWhite on grey would be perfect!!
ReplyDelete(I hope you haven't gotten this comment 2 dozen times. I kept getting error messages!!)
I think I would paint the shelf yellow. Grey and yellow are becoming quite a popular combination these days! I'm currently gathering those color fabrics for a quilt I'm planning..such a pretty combo!
ReplyDeleteI'd say paint it green. Oh you asked yellow or white? Yellow, a lighter yellow though... or maybe not I guess if you're storing fabric in it yellow would maybe distort the colors a bit with the reflected yellow light. I'm no help. How about green with pink polka dots? :)
ReplyDeleteYour new shelf is wonderful!! Wish I could find something like that. It reminds me of a display in a LQS. They have fat quarters in each hole.

ReplyDeleteI would paint the shelf unit white so that all the fabric colors are what stand out.
ReplyDeleteIt feels great to have a newly organized space. I'm in need of doing that myself but I've been too deep into a project dig in and get organized. I think this week I'll be able to. I can see how a pigeon hole shelf could be useful in so many ways!
ReplyDeletenow that's been a huge improvement in stash storage! I used to have mine stored in cardboard boxes by colour, but I hated not being able to see it, so it's in clear plastic boxes now. I would love to have one of those pigeon hole cupboards - lucky you! I'd be inclined to go yellow against the grey myself!
ReplyDeleteooooh what a great cubby hole shelf unit. I want one of those too!! :)
ReplyDeleteIf it was me I would probably paint it white, because I really like bold colour on white. But that's just me...
Great idea, those units are super cute and a great way to display your fabric as well as store it!
