Today's guest is Kirsten from Maniacal Material Girls
She's a stay at home mom of two adorable little girls, and is absolutely obsessed with fabric and quilting! As soon as naptime hits, she is at her sewing machine. She sews the occasional kid item, some of which she decides she MUST share with the world. She also has experience making professional custom window treatments, though she has given up working outside the home to raise her kids.
Hop over to her blog to read about her sewing machine...

Coming to today's question...
Since I'll be out of town, it'll be difficult for me to monitor the posts everyday for questions...
So I'll be asking you questions about your sewing machine instead....
What is the name of your sewing machine and is there a story behind that name?
Leave a comment with your answer on THIS POST...
Winner will be drawn on Monday 26th November 2012 at 10.00 am IST.
Cheers!

I don't really have a name for my machine. She is a Bernina 440 and I just call her Bernina. :-)
ReplyDeleteMy sewing machine is named Pfaff and she is named for the manufacturer (ha ha)!
ReplyDeleteI refer to my machine as 'my machine'. Yes, very original.
ReplyDeleteI have just gotten a pristine 1951 Singer model 15-91 that even had its original and unused oil can and motor grease tube. This beauty deserves a great and meaningful name, but for right now it is just "The Find".
ReplyDeleteMy old "stand by retreat" Bernina is Bertha, after my maternal grandmother. My Mom was a beautiful seamstress,so my "stay at home" Bernina is Louise, after her. She would be so proud that I am sewing, albiet not clothing, but quilts, bags, home dec., etc. I did try clothes for my daughter for a minute, but it became frustrating when clothing could be purchased so much cheaper, and then of course, branding came into the picture. I love quilting, and love my machines.
ReplyDeleteI have a Singer machine. But I have not name it yet :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance!
Really boring I'm afraid!! Mine is 'Lily' because it's a Husqvarna 'Lily'!
ReplyDeletemy janome has no name--the shark has the name 'the beast' :)
ReplyDeleteI have really not ever named any item I have owned! My late hubby and my daughter have named everything in their lives! I guess I have just always enjoyed thir nicknames for things and let it go at that!

My huskaqvaria (Eyre spelling is wrong) is called "you damnable thing " we have a terrible relationship. I hats it, it bated everyone. My brother is "old faithful " cause no matter what it works and my alna is "the work horse " no matter that it is really old it goes through anything.
ReplyDeleteI have two machines. The first one is an old Kenmore that I have had for over 24 years. Her name is Mable. It just seemed like the right name for her. She is very sturdy and runs 24/7 if I need her to, she sews through anything. The name just fits. The second is my newer Babylock and her name is Grace. It says so right on the machine so that is what I call her.
ReplyDeleteSince I'm not very creative coming up with names for pets, quilts, etc... I never thought to name my sewing machine which is a Pfaff Quilt Expression 3.0
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't really have a name, sometimes I call him "bro", short for brother. :)
ReplyDeleteMine is a Singer Inspiration, it is called 'my sewing machine' lol :) I don't tend to name things other than children and pets!
ReplyDeleteMine doesn't have a name. I call her my 440 (Bernina ) or just my machine. LOL
ReplyDeleteMy machine is a Pfaff and it has never occured to me to name her, but our car is called little putt.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun contest, I'm discovering some great new people through their blogs.
I have no name for my sewing machine! I enjoy reading about nicknames for others' machines, though!
ReplyDeleteI like alliteration in names, so Bettina seemed to go well with the surname Bernina :)
ReplyDeleteI have a Husqvarna "Emerald"....I call her "Emmie". My sweet Husband got her in Feb. 2012.....was so surprised to get. Loooove her! (& definitely looooove my Hubby!)
ReplyDeleteThanks for chance to win your drawing! :)
I don't have a name for my machine, but I should because I have had it for around 20 years (maybe "Old Faithful"). It isn't perfect, but it keeps on running! Thanks for the chance to win!

My sewing machine doesn't have a name but it does have Janome stamped on it, so that's what I call it.
ReplyDeleteMy machine is nameless, and I refer to it as "my machine." Now, I did name one of my mother's old machines that I cannot put a bobbin into. Because it is an all metal unidentifiable brand, I just call it "The Tank."
ReplyDeleteI've never named my sewing machine, either. Once I named a car, but other than that, I only name kids and pets, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI always love that people name their sewing machine and I never have! I sewed on a Viking for almost 30 years and LOVED it. It finally gave out on me last year. After trips to three different service shops I finally got it running again. By then I had splurged on a Bernina 820. Good thing. My Viking only ran another two months and quit on me again.
ReplyDeleteI may have to think of something special for my new buddy.
I haven't named my machine yet I just call it my new machine as I've had it for less than a year. But I think it is cool when people have names for their machines, I just haven't thought of one. :)
ReplyDeleteI have two Vikings - one a couple of years old and the other about 35 years. Never ever gave a thought to name them until I started reading blogs about a year ago. Still no names; guess I need to give it some serious thought. :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't named my machine. I have a Viking that has very few hours on it :( I think it has everything I need for now.
