SSF Post # 18 : Rachel's Fabric Stash

Todays guest should have been featured last week, but with me being busy with a lot of things, I missed out on her post altogether... I'm so sorry Rachel... I hope you understand...

Anyways, here's Rachel from the two windmills... She's one of my fellow Flickrer (my vocabulary is really getting out of hand, LOL!)... Have a peep at her sewing room, and dont forget to leave a comment!

Thanks so much Shruti for allowing me to share my sewing room with you all.  Welcome to my sewing room.  We recently moved house one reason being so I could have my own sewing room, as my fabric and equipment were taking over the house.   

Here is my desk with my machine on it, opposite I have my overlocker and cutting table

My lovely husband built some wall shelves to accomodate my fabric. 

I do several different types of sewing.  Mostly I sew soft toys which I sell through several Sydney boutiques and online, I also make clothes for myself and my boys, and occasionally do some quilting.  My shelves reflect this. 

The bottom shelf (the baskets on the ground) accommodate softie making materials.  The cane basket houses most of my corduroy and thicker fabrics. The plastic tubs in the middle house felt and doctors flannel, and the blue and yellow tubs hold my small scale Kawaii prints and large geometric prints. 

The next shelf up is mixed.  The pink plastic tubs hold all my spotty fabric prints, and my striped fabrics.  The tubs in the middle hold some favourite quilting fabrics, including my 1930’s collection, and my Moda Momo Wonderland quilt top and fabrics, which reminds me I really need to finish that.  The other plastic tubs hold some kids print that I am saving to make clothes for my sons the navy and white ticking that you can see is destined to become some sailor style pants for them using an Oliver & S pattern.  The bottom tub in that pile has some vintagey fabrics and home decor weight ones that I haven’t got a purpose for yet but just had to have. 

The next shelf has my dressmaking and favourite fabrics.  You can see my denims which I also use for toys.  A pile of linen, cotton sateen, cotton voile with my Anna Maria Horner favourites on top.  Also you can see quilting weight fabrics that I have put aside for clothes for myself.  I have some Laura Gunn Poppies for a light summer robe, some Soul Blossoms for a skirt, and again some other favourites which I haven’t got a purpose for yet. 

This shelf holds my winter weight dressmaking fabrics.  There is my flannels at the back, suitings, jersey, and my Anna Maria Horner Cotton Velveteen. 

There it all is, I also have a huge ugly bag of scraps which I need to organise.  I really like Shruti’s solution.  I also plan to put a curtain up along the front of the shelves to protect the fabric from the sun hopefully that will be a job for this coming weekend.  If you want to see more of my making pop by my blog www.thetwowindmills.com.
