My special memory associated with my machine is completing my first free motion quilting on a quilt.
ReplyDeleteMy special memory of the Singer 15-91 is getting a replacement power cord (bought the machine on hope) plugged in and seeing the 61 year old light bulb light up! Likewise, the machine purred like a kitten - such a welcome relief!
ReplyDeleteSpecial memory I have about my machine has to be, when I got my new one...my NC daughter claimed the old one. She's had it for bout 5 yrs,and sewed things now & then. But now she is using it to Quilt! We are learning together...tho long distance.... And I looooove that she is using MY first machine (got it at J.C. Penny's! & machine is now 23 yrs. old...still purrs like a kitten!).....

I was using my mother's old sewing machine. Then my husband suddenly bought his sisters brand new sewing machine for me. I was so happy to have a machine of my own :D
ReplyDeleteMy special memory is that my machine was given to me recently by my husband's grandma who is 98 and decided that she was unable to use it anymore. She is an amazing crafter.

My special memory is being able to make my grandmother her last quilt on it like she requested for her finally birthday before she passed away.
ReplyDeleteMy special memory is when I stitched through my finger :) haha I still love her! I just posted first thing this morning. I think our time zones are completely different so sorry if that is a little off to you.
ReplyDeleteMy special memory is sewing first with my grandson to make his Dad a pillow for Christmas....from picking out fabric to sewing.....course, now he is 26, and a hockeyboy, but fun while it lasted.
ReplyDeleteI have sewn off and on for many years, but have gotten frustrated sewing (fitting) for myself. Most of my sewing has been for my daughters - my most special memories are of all of the Halloween costumes I have made for them over the years. Now that they are older it is room decor - I just made a beanbag chair and pillow poufs for them!

I just got my new sewing machine last March and I love to FMQ on it! I have been teaching three friends to quilt and they all love it, too. Haven't sewn through my finger yet!
ReplyDeleteI guess it would be that my new machine Grace was a reward for losing 100 pounds. My husband had told me when I lost 100 pounds I could buy whatever machine I wanted. I could have gotten the top of the line but couldn't see spending that much money. I love my Grace.
ReplyDeleteI have a really great and fancy sewing machine. It was a hand-me-down from my MIL. Best hand-me-down ever! So my best memory is the fact that my MIL thinks enough of me to give me such a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteMy mother surprised me with our fancy computerized sewing machine. We had 3 very old machines, and all broke at the same time. So, as we are both quilters, we needed a sewing machine "fix" and fast! We traveled to the next county over, checked out machines, and she bought this one because it was in stock. When I took my sewing class, she drove me there, and while I was in class she bought a great non-computerized machine for herself, and told me this one was mine! Now, that is a sweet mother!
ReplyDeletemmm, I'd have to say how I got it. It was supposed to be a birthday present but I was so frustrated with my Shark and impatient that I got an early birthday present :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any special memories yet, but I think I will very soon :) Last night I did about half the cutting for my first ever quilt, so should be able to start sewing next week!
ReplyDeleteSoooo many memories with my machine... The best thing was when I took a class from Sue Nickels and learned how to make free motion feathers, just like magic!
ReplyDeleteI really don't have any special memories with my current machine, as much as I do love it, but I have lots of special memories from the machine I used as a little girl. It was a toy Singer sewing machine, with a crank handle, and it sewed a loopy stitch. I made Barbie clothes and doll clothes galore with that machine. I still keep it because of those wonderful memories.

ReplyDeleteI've only had my Bernina 820 for about a year and have been learning to FMQ for just a little longer. My best memory is the first time I quilted a 60 x 60 quilt.

My hubby bought me my new machine less than a year ago. He was tired of me having issues with my inherited machine (from his grandma). And now he will even quilt on my machine while I make the binding or cut more fabric. :)
ReplyDeleteMy most special memory actually happened when I purchased my machine. We'd just had a horrendous flood in our community! The sewing store I'd been frequenting for around 40 years was inundated by water - to it's ceiling!! They had saved some of their inventory but the building was unusable and deemed unsavable. They were just getting to the point of opening a temporary store in the mall when they had a meeting to tell their customers about how they were "getting on their feet" and to offer us all some great deals! End result: I got my 'dream machine'!
