Hello to my new visitors!

Hi all,

Welcome to 13 Woodhouse Road...

If you're coming here for the first time, via Sew Mama Sew, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I'm Shruti, a 34 year old SAHM to a wonderful 6 year old son - Aadi. I live in India with my husband and my wonderful son.

I studied to be an architect. I was pretty good at it, considering that I finished 16 projects in 3 years before I got married and shifted to a new town altogether...

I started quilting when I took a break from my job following a bout of Chikungunya. And then I just fell in love, all over again! There's just no going back to architecture now that I am here!

I had not touched a sewing machine before January 2010, and I believe I have come a long way from there  till today...

If you want to compare, here are a few projects that I have done

The Lemon Quilt - I made this using scraps from my mother's dresses and some cheap cotton. This was my first FMQ project. I used old curtains as batting thinking it was awesomely intelligent to 'up'cycle them, but when my fingers went numb for 8 days, I realized it was a bad idea.

Or this quilt, which has a lot of things that can be termed "wrong", but I adore it for the memories associated with it!

And there is this one... This is special, because this is how I met my Best Blogging Friend! Emily! :) She was the recipient of this quilt!

Or this - Gardens of India - my first commercial pattern!

Or Paalvi - my favorite one! This is where the transition from an amateur quilter to a more confident one began...

How can I forget to mention the one I made for my little one - the Dr. Suess Quilt!

Or the one I made for my big boy - my husband - the Hex-ed Quilt

And nothing else can beat my best work so far! The Portrait Quilt that I made for my Husband and his family to celebrate 100 years of the family business - a portrait of the founder - his great-grandfather - Dada Ajoba!

Apart from making quilts, I am also the founder President of the India Modern Quilt Guild.
We are a wonderful group of women who have fought a lot of negative criticism and survived... We're going strong and are getting stronger!

Whatever the reason you're here, I am glad that you are! :)

MIA!!!

I know I have been MIA for a long time now... Life has just been so busy... And with so much of blogging in the last month, I felt I should remain away from blogger for a while...

But I'm back today with a couple of things...

First is the story of an Elephant - Toto!

Toto was born in Ottawa, Canada...

Trunk up!

His mother Katy, had looked after him well and he had grown into a fine boy...

Front

It was time for Katy to give away her boy to someone across the seas...

So she packed him nice little accompaniments and sent him across with a heavy heart, sometime in February...

She waited to hear news from her friend... (She could not directly ask her as they weren't supposed to tell whom they are sending babies to... The friend had a strong intuition that this one was coming her way though!) But there was no word... She even tried prodding and poking around her blog and flickr pool...

But still, there was nothing at all!

Now Katy started getting nervous... She was worried that her little boy had got lost somewhere...

It was 4 months since her boy had gone off on a route that would normally take 4-6 weeks! And there had been no word from him at all...

Panic was starting to set in... And arrangements had been made for the friend to receive another wonderful boy instead...

And on that very day.... Toto reached his destination 13 Woodhouse Road!!!

DQS10 package finally arrived from Katy - Lethargic Lass!

He was accompanied by some lovely fabric, pencils (there were 2, but Aadi had already claimed on and by the time I am putting this on my blog- its size must have reduced to an inch!), stickers (they are inside his wardrobe door!) and some lovely scented candles!!!

Thank you Katy for making me this beautiful quilt! I had a gut feeling that this one was mine ever since I saw the colors... And also the design! I had loved it right from the first sketch, and was hoping it was for me right then...

Its absolutely P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

I named the cutie Toto because he took so long to come to me (Toto = short for Tortoise)

Isn't he the most gorgeous guy??

My lovely Toto!

Now I'm going to put him up on my sewing room wall!

On another note, I worked on a number of projects...  But I guess they will have independent posts!!!

I'll let you be jealous of me for a day!!!

:)

Cheers!!!

Doll Quilt Swap X

Like I said in the morning today, I finished my DQSX quilt!!!

It all began with this sketch...

My creation

Which in turn was inspired by this fabric that I had received from my Mug Rug Swap Partner Marilyn (Spiced Coffee) last year...

Fabric received from Spiced Coffee!!!

And here was how it all started...

a cuppa and a catchup! - the main panel

And then it was lying in my WIP basket for some time...

My current work

Untill I decided to tackle it and finish it...

So its all ready to go on its way soon...

My entire Quilt...

Here are a few details...

Details of the main panel conversation... Sorry for the blurred snaps...

DQS Front Main Panel

These are the mini-mini quilts details...

Thats my thoughts!

Thats what my partner is thinking...

Thats what Marilyn is thinking

I used a different backing for the mini-mini quilts and the areas that popped out became by label... So here's part 1

Label Part 1

and part 2

Label Part 2

I'm not showing you part 3, that will spill all the beans...

So off it will be to my wonderful partner... I cannot wait for her to get it... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that she likes it...

Cheers!!!
