Bella Parade Quilt Along Post # 2

Hey y’all!  I’m Bryanna from A Blond Quilts and I am so excited to participate in Shruti and Fat Quarter Shop’s Moda Bella Solids Parade of Color!  I cannot even explain the sheer amount of joy, anticipation, fear, happiness, nervousness, and excitement that ran through my brain when Shruti asked me to help out by hosting a quilt along of my DQS10 quilt ‘Cacophony of Color’!

This is the mini quilt I will be showing you how to construct.  And no worries, it is super easy!
Now, let’s talk color and get this quilt along under way!
Looking up the word ‘color’ resulted in 20 definitions when used as a noun, 1 as an adjective, 5 as a verb, and 3 as an idiom.  That is a lot of definitions for such a simple and universally understood word!
Me??  I just define it as happy!
We will be sewing with 31 – yes – 31!! – of Moda’s Bella solids, which I was new to starting with this project and now LOVE.  They are strong, saturated, and divinely soft.  I am not just a Kona girl anymore!

Fabric Requirements:
·         Fat Eighth of 30 different Moda Bella Solid colors
·         ½ yd Bella Solid White
·         25 x 25 inches for batting
·         25 x 25 inches for backing
·         ¼  yd for binding
This week we are going to focus on cutting all the pieces you will need to make your mini.
(NOTE: All measurements in inches.)

NOTE:  Cutting the squares for your HST needs to be accurate.  By cutting them 2 3/8” they will end up 2” square before piecing and finished at 1.5” square once sewn together.
If you need some tips on how to prepare and cut your fabrics there are some fabulous tips here!
And that’s it!

See that wasn’t too hard, right??  Crosses fingers and hopes I explained everything well enough!!

Please email me at bomara [at] gmail [dot] com if you have any questions or if anything is unclear!

Please add photos of your creations to the Flickr pool!  I would love to see them!

Summary of things to come!

·         May 9: Piecing center panel (log cabins/inner borders)
·         May 16: Finish top (piecing HST/outer borders)
·         May 23: Quilting tips, binding, and some special extras!

  1. I have just read the cutting imstructions and for cutting the squares for the HST's you are mentioning two sizes. In the table it says 2 7/8" and in the following note it says 2 3/8". What is the correct one?
