My new sewing room!!!

Okay, so I FINALLY got to move all my stuff into my old orange room. I had given it to my son, but since he sleeps in our bed with hubby & me, there was not much point in having a separate room for him.
So back went his stuff into the family room and my stuff into my favorite room.

Here's my fabric storage corner. The vertical rack was actually a bench which I put up on its side. I'll have clear tubs to occupy the racks with scraps sorted by color. Meanwhile, the corrugated boxes will have to do.

This is my working area with the long table serving to cut, sew and iron stuff. The corrugated boxes here too hold fabric and will be replaced with clear tubs when finances permit.

This is my cutting corner which also has clear jars to hold my scraps. This was something i saw on stash manicure. The blogger had 3 jars but I decided to have 5."Reds & Pinks", Blues & Greens", Yellows & Oranges", Blacks & Whites" & "Browns & Beiges"

This is a small rug that I made from my old chiffon dupattas. The colors look beautiful together and my dear teddy holds my pens with so much of love... The pen stand was a gift from my hubby on my honeymoon. We bought it in a Little Lacey showroom at Genting Highlands.

This part is something I've kept more or less the same. My boy is not much of a fan of soft toys and so I thought I'd let them stay with me in my sewing room. I also added a few of my favorite things to the display.

And this is the first item i made in my new sewing room. Its an ipad sleeve. Based on the tutorial by Quilt Dad.

I'm looking forward to wonderful days of quilting ahead.

P.S. I do want to paint something on my orange wall. Any suggestions for any kind of wall art?

I have been busy...

All these days that I've been away... I have been busy... Not just with my family, but with my work too...
Here are a few snaps... More to come soon...
First is this table runner that I made for myself... I used up quite a lot of my scraps and I'm loving it...

The second is a bed spread I made for a friend. Its based on this design by Elizabeth. But I used larger pieces to make a larger spread. Its not quilted but just stitched in the ditch. Can you believe that the squares are cut from well worn clothes belonging to my friend??? No one at my house did believe it... ;)

Now the third one is my favorite finishes of recent times... This is my first finish from the 40 quilts I intend to make for the orphanage... I'm so happy for completing this one!
This is based on this quilt that I had come across long back and could not get out of my mind. Now all I'll have to do in the last month will be appliqué the name of the child on it...

Coming to the subject of donating to the orphanage, I'd like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Elizabeth of Oh Fransson! and Valentina of Valentina's Corner. They're donating 1 and 2 quilts to the cause. :) Thanks a lot. Also thanks to a fellow quilter from India, Kalpana Joshi (the first Indian quilter I've found); she too is donating a bagful of stuff.

I had always wished that I would adopt one child after having one biological one. But for some reason, I cannot do that. I hope things will turn favorable soon, and I can fulfill my wish. But till then, I'll do all I can to help those kids out there.

Once again, I request all quilting blogging friends of mine to donate your scraps to my cause. All that I'm asking for is things that you've stuffed away and wont be using. It can bless a child with warmth.

Spread the Cheer!

Thinking f starting my studies... again...

Its been a long time since I finished college... 2001... ever since then I have been working, for 2 years i worked for another architect in my hometown and then for 5 years I have worked on my own... I had a wonderful practice and never thought about studying further...
But now during this sabbatical, i am thinking of going for a PG course... I have 2 options : 1 is to do a Master's course from a place about 1 hr drive from here... but it will require me to go there every weekend for 2 years... The second option is to do a PhD from a renowned institute in India (about 15 hrs of train journey from my place) but i'll only have to go there twice a year for 3 years...
Now, I'm confused... Any suggestions???

Where am I right now???

I know I've been away for quite a long time. 2 weeks to be precise. My internet connection is having issues. Hope they'll be sorted out soon and I can come back to blogging.
Meanwhile, I've also decided to shift my studio to a cottage that was built as an out house about 30 years back by my FIL. I had an office of my own (for which I had spent my own money) that used to be my studio untill now. But I have to accept the fact that its not generating any revenue and it lies facing the main street and that my husband can make a better use of it as an extension of his shop (He runs a laptop showroom here).
My office was my dream. And its beautiful too. Its really painful moving stuff out of the place. I wanted to start my own architectural practice there. But things didn't work out. And it was lying empty till I started Shruti's.
The cottage is pretty old and dull. But I know I'll make it into a much better place. Wish me luck.
